When: Midnight falls on the night of Thursday 31 December 2026 into Friday 1 January 2027 (public holiday). At beach destinations, multi-day “New Year's weeks” start around 26–27 December.
Where: The biggest free public celebrations: Copacabana (Rio), Avenida Paulista (São Paulo), Festival Virada Salvador and Balneário Camboriú's Praia Central. Paid, multi-day parties: Jurerê, Trancoso, Búzios, São Paulo's north coast, Carneiros, Milagres, Noronha and Pipa.

Rio de Janeiro

Brazil's biggest New Year's party: around 2 million people on Copacabana beach, with concert stages and about 12 minutes of fireworks, free and run by Rio's city hall (Riotur). Beachfront hotels, clubs and boats sell paid parties with open bar.
